THE CHAE: Courtyard is an individual hanok (traditional Korean house) accommodation with the charm of a waterwheel turning in the yard. A long-unattended hanok has been transformed into a comfortable space to enjoy a slow, analog life and the hanok’s charm. The word “courtyard” has been added to the house’s name to emphasize the fact that there is a waterwheel in the yard so that guests may appreciate the aesthetics of pause, rest, and slowness by looking at the slowly turning waterwheel.
Details
In addition to the large yard and wooden floor, the house comes with four rooms, three bathrooms, and a space outside for foot bathing. There is a waterwheel in the yard that guests may admire from anywhere inside. [Foot bathtub] The foot bathing room outdoors has a large window through which one can see the waterwheel; the room comes with a large, sturdy table and chair designed with hanok-like colors and lines. [Welcome tea] A horsetail sieve made using the traditional method is used to create traditional Magpie and Tiger mugwort tea, which you can enjoy while looking out at the beautiful yard. [Beam projector] Once the sun sets, the waterwheel and moonlight create a romantic mood that you can appreciate from the large wooden floor. You can also enjoy watching a movie using the beam projector, with the hanok’s charm as a backdrop.
